Calling --Hello. Is Tom in? --May I speak to Tom, please? --Hello. Tom speaking. I’d like to speak to Mary. --Can I leave a message? --Please have her return my call. --Tell her I’ll call later. --I want to make a long distance call to New York. --Could you put me through to Room 402?( 帮我接通 402 房间。 ) --What’s your extension number, please?( 请问分机号码是多少? )
* Receiving a call --- Hello. This is Tom, who’s speaking? ---Hold the line, please. I’ll fetch her up. ( 我把她找来 ) ---I’m afraid you’ve dialed the wrong number. ---Hold on a second, please. ( 请等一会儿 ) ---May I take a message? ---Would you like to leave a message?
*About the call The line is busy. ( 占线 ) The line is engaged. ( 占线 ) You’re wanted on the phone. The phone is our of order. The line is dead.( 一点声音也没有。 ) When the phone rings, you may say hello, then tell your telephone number & name, such as “This is ” or “This is Tom speaking”. If you are calling your close friends or familiar people, you needn’t to say more words to be polite.
