MLA Formatting Purpose: to establish consistency in essay formatting to understand the basics of the Modern Language Association (MLA) formatting, which will be expanded upon later

Save It! 1. Open Microsoft Word 2. Click “File” 3. Click “Save as” 4. Name File 1.Use Type of Essay + 7 (Persuasive Animal 7) 5. Select Location to Save File 1.Recommend Save to TWO Locations: Flash Drive and F: Drive

Margins 1. Click on “Page Layout” Tab 2. Click on “Margins” 3. Click on “Normal” (1” margins all around)

Line Spacing 1. Click on “Home” Tab 2. Click on Paragraph expansion arrow 1.Small down angled arrow of “Paragraph” section 3. Change “Line Spacing” to “Double” 4. Change “After” to 0 pt (default is 10pt)

Font 1. Place cursor in upper left. 2. Change font to “Times New Roman” size 12

Identifying Information 1. Place cursor in upper left. 2. Type First and Last Name 3. Hit “Enter” 4. Type Teacher’s Name 5. Hit “Enter” 6. Type Course Name and Hour (example: Language Arts 7-9) 7. Hit “Enter” 8. Type Date in European Format (example: 22 September 2014)

Title 1. Place cursor at end of date 2. Hit “Enter” 3. Center align (CTRL+E) cursor 4. Type title of essay (example: Argument Essay) 5. Hit “Enter” 6. Left align (CTRL+L) cursor 7. Hit “Tab” 8. Begin typing essay
