Introduction to the following: The Alternative Assessment Program The Modified HSGQE The Nonstandardized Assessment Your responsibilities as a District Test Coordinator

The Alternative Assessment Program: Modified HSGQE Nonstandardized HSGQE* For Diploma track students For students with disabilities (or 504 plan) who are not able to pass one or more subtests of the HSGQE Must have department approval *Limited to very few students with severe physical or emotional disabilities

The Modified is the HSGQE given with allowable modifications (see Participation Guidelines Table 3, pg. 18) Some modifications are permitted because of the high stakes of the HSGQE. The significant help they provide outweighs the compromising effect on the validity of the test. Tab pg 18 Highlight P 2, last sentence

Accommodation: A change in practices and procedures that provide equitable instructional and assessment access for students. Accommodation: A change in practices and procedures that provide equitable instructional and assessment access for students. Pg 15 of PG Modification: A change in content, format, and/or administration of a test that alters what the test is designed to measure. Modification: A change in content, format, and/or administration of a test that alters what the test is designed to measure.

1.IEP/504 team selects modifications needed and documents them in the IEP/504 Plan 2. Application faxed to EED by sped teacher at least 60 days prior to testing 3. EED reviews and faxes back to teacher Highlight P 2, 60 Days

Requirements for eligibility: The student must have a current IEP or 504 plan. The student must have made an attempt to pass all sections of the HSGQE. The students IEP/504 Plan must reflect the need for a Modified HSGQE. All modifications must be documented in the IEP/504 Plan.

Modifications must not breach test security. Modifications must not prevent the measurement of the students proficiency. Modifications must not inhibit the ability to score the test. Highlight Pg 20 list

Repeating 10 th graders may have modifications on the spring SBA/HSGQE SBA results will be suppressed HSGQE items will be scored and will be valid Previous passing scores for any HSGQE subtest remain valid

A list of acceptable modifications can be found in the Participation Guidelines. This is not a comprehensive list of modifications.

Special Ed directors: receive a report from EED listing all NEW students applications DTCs receive reports & receive hard copies of applications Teachers Receive hard copies of applications

Review Reports Which teachers are consistently receiving partial and/or denials? Are comments consistent? Is additional training necessary?

As the oversight for test administration it is ultimately the DTCs responsibility to make sure modifications are available on the day of testing. Training to this assessment is important and should be done either by the DTC or by Special Education Directors – or both.

ACTIVITY: Review the modified applications and reports for your district. How would you prepare for testing in your district if you have a large number of students who: require a read aloud for the reading test will use a CD for reading test need a math resource guide

DIPLOMA TRACK The Nonstandardized HSGQE requires a student to prepare an extensive collection of work that reflects competency in each of the state standards addressed on the HSGQE.
