New ways of delivering differentiated support/career guidance services to young people The power, impact and potential of web-based video career stories Cherry Shaw Dave Arnold

icould: A distinctive approach First hand accounts and video stories. Career journeys not just ‘jobs’. Careers and people linked by job-type, sector, subjects, interests and personal details. Across all sectors and all levels – junior to most senior.

icould – a modern approach Using social networks Numerous ways to search and engage Interactivity Candid, personalised information Real stories from real people

Free, no cost, libre, frei, ελεύθερος, libero, livre, свободно, nothing, zip. However you say it, icould.com is free to use!

Research-led development  ‘icould within the curriculum’ - Association of Careers Education and Guidance  ‘An evaluation of icould’ - International Centre for Guidance Studies at University of Derby  ‘The icould approach to career development’ - International Centre for Guidance Studies at University of Derby ‘They are more interesting than just reading about careers advice.’ Young person survey respondent ‘Ease of navigation, helpful, user friendly, well displayed subject matter.’ Young person survey respondent ‘Interesting, helpful, clear to read, lots of info, bright, accessible, tempted me in.’ Y11 new user

Research-led development Careers advisers and teachers  icould is being used by both teachers and career practitioners.  The website offers both a curriculum resource and a resource that can be used to support one-to-one discussions.  The website can be used to motivate and inspire confidence in young people. ‘It has helped us to take the careers curriculum down into its heart. We have asked questions such as ‘What are the values we are trying to promote? What is aspiration?’ Careers adviser ‘I immediately saw it’s potential. It was what I was waiting for!’ Careers adviser

Research-led development Young people  Young people found the films both interesting and informative.  The films have an impact on the way young people are inspired to think about their futures.  In the classroom icould can be used to stimulate discussion about careers and learning choices.  There is potential to use icould in other areas of the curriculum as a teaching and learning resource. ‘The stories here are really interesting and inspiring. They feel real. Often these kinds of examples are set in a haughty fashion. Here, the stories are humane and truly show young people that it IS possible to live your dreams (without being at all too corny and naive about it).’ Young person survey respondent
