What’s the difference? A FACT is a statement that can be proved true or false. FACTS often include statistical information such as numbers and historical events. An OPINION is a statement that tells what someone thinks or how someone feels. Clue words that signal opinions include Perhaps I think I believe, Maybe Possibly An OPINION cannot be proven.
For Example….. The car was blue with yellow polka dots. FACT The San Diego Chargers are the best team in football. OPINION I believe that the Pirates of the Caribbean has fantastic special effects. OPINION Village School is located in Victorville, California. FACT I think that Christmas is the best time of year. OPINION
Practice, Practice, Practice Perhaps we can win the game. OPINION We think Mark stole the car. OPINION World War II ended in FACT Christmas Day is on December 25 th. FACT Maybe I can get an XBOX 360. OPINION
