Terrorist Attacks Traffic Accident Sudden Weather Changes Issues

Background – Copenhagen August 2010: A 6 lane highway with cars caught under water and a 100 meter underpass got flooded very fast due to heavy rains July 2011: Heavy rains which caused flooding in the Danish capital Copenhagen, damaging homes and sparking travel chaos in parts of the city August 2014: Parts of Copenhagen flooded by violent storms overnight February 2015: Terrorist attack April 2015: Copenhagen science centre 'destroyed' by fire Population : 1.9 million No. of vehicles: 2.1 million cars (Denmark) Area: sq. km

Background – Delhi Population: 25 million Vehicular population : 9.63 million Area: 1483 sq. km Heavy rains and flooding each year Regular traffic jams : 8623 accidents in million new vehicles registered in last five years September 2008 : Terrorist Attacks September 2011 : Terrorist Attacks May 2015: Earthquakes in northern part of India Regular political demonstrations

Current Scenario We contacted the following department in order to understand the current scenario: Copenhagen 1.Police 2.Danish emergency management agency 3.Fire department 4.Armed forces 5.Danish meteorological institute Delhi 1.Traffic Police 2.National Disaster Management Authority 3.Fire department 4.Indian meteorological department Nationwide siren based warning system but only for widespread emergencies No system to alert citizens proactively about all the emergencies in real time Most of the citizens receive alerts through traditional media (Radio, TV ) No system to send location specific alerts Delhi traffic police used to provide SMS based intimation Information is not sent to the commuters Most of the citizens receive alerts through FM Radio No system to send location specific alerts
