7th Grade Unit 6: Forces and Motion Lesson 2: Potential and kinetic Energy Vocabulary of Instruction:

Conservation of Energy Is a physical law which states that energy can be converted to a different form, but it is never lost all together.

Energy Conversion States that the total amount of energy in any closed system remains constant but can be recreated, although it may change forms. Solar panels are used to capture light energy from the sun and convert it to electricity. Green plants undergo photosynthesis to convert light energy into chemical energy in the form of food.

Energy of Motion Is kinetic energy that is causing work. Energy of Motion

Energy of Position Is potential energy that is stored in an object. Energy of Position

Energy Transformations Is any process of transforming one form of energy to another.

Kinetic Energy Is energy of motion that is causing work.

Potential Energy Is stored energy or energy of position.
