There is a direct correlation between a company’s health and well being and the degree of accountability displayed by the employees

Powerful partnerships require: 1.Understand needs 2.Clarify expectations 3.Collaborate on solutions 4.Meet commitments

The Victim Context It is part of being human Victim mode shows up everywhere Victim debates occur and are hilarious I have it worse then you. Victimization is easy, a reason to blame

Victim mode gets reinforced 1.Everybody agrees that I am a victim 2.It is frequently rewarded 3.Sense of being in a group 4.Don’t have to look at myself 5.Don’t have to work on self or confront own behavior 6.Safety – main benefit

Breaking the victim cycle 1.Take risk – relative term for each 2.Leave the familiar

Are you IN or OUT of the Cave? In the cave for safety It becomes a problem when we live there and never come out When life is about safety – we are in no danger of becoming change agents Hard to improve results when in the cave

Justified “Victim” Being a victim is not the problem Problem is when we gather data to prove that we are powerless. Being a victim is seductive Victim list becomes who we are. Our friends are people who buy our list and others are a pain in the butt.

What Were We Thinking Shifts in out beliefs result in changed behavior. Do you operate in the negative or positive context?

FIERCE ACCOUNTABILTY A desire to take responsibility for results; a bias toward solution, action. An attitude; a personal, private nonnegotiable choice about how to live one’s life.

FIERCE ACCOUNTABILTY Starts and ends with ME.

FIERCE ACCOUNTABILITY CYCLE 1.Prepare Yourself – Fierce Conversation with self  Embrace reality  Explore my options  Clarify results wanted  Take a step in that direction  Gather evidence to ensure success  It is about ownership – you own the problem  From ownership to decisions to action

2. Prepare Others Hold others able Who is doing what by exactly when Follow up meetings

3. DO IT – Mineral Rights Conversation Identify the issue Clarify the issue Determine current impact Determine future implication Examine personal contributions Describe the ideal outcome Commit to action Note: No declarative statements, questions only, no leading questions, don’t give advice

4. DEBRIEF Check in with person – wait a day 5. DO IT AGAIN, ONLY BETTER Practice it at home

Take it to the Organization 1.Schedule and conduct Mineral Rights conversations with each direct report. 2.Schedule a brief meeting each morning or week to ensure clarity and time lines 3.Be clear WHY things are on to-do are a priority. 4.Ask each member to give succinct report on accomplishments and what’s next on to-do list

5. Stop “victim conversations” 6. Express ample, public appreciation for geting stuff done. 7. If lagging behind ask, “What’s your plan for catching up?”
