Atheist: Someone who says there is no God

Agnostic:Someone who doesn’t know if there is a God or not

1. How do we know about God?

Hebrews 3:4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. Hebrews 3:4

Hebrews 3:4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

Psalm 19:1-4 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. 3 There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. 4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. Psalm 19:1-4

Romans 2:14-15 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) Romans 2:14-15

Romans 2:14-15 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)

Conscience: The “voice” inside us that tells us what we are doing is wrong or right

Natural Knowledge of God: What we know about God from creation (nature) and our conscience.

1. How do we know about God? We learn about God first of all from what we can see in creation and from what our own conscience tells us.

Acts 14:17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy. Acts 14:17

Acts 14:17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.

Psalm 104:24 How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Psalm 104:24

Psalm 104:24 How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities— his eternal power and divine nature— have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Romans 1:20

Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities— his eternal power and divine nature— have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Romans 1:32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:32

Romans 1:32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

1. How do we know about God? We learn about God first of all from what we can see in creation and from what our own consciences tell us. They can tell us that God is powerful, eternal, loving, divine and that he is the judge of all the world.

Galatians 4:8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. Galatians 4:8

Galatians 4:8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.

1. How do we know about God? But they cannot tell us who the true God is or about Jesus. We learn about God first of all from what we can see in creation and from what our own consciences tell us. They can tell us that God is powerful, eternal, loving, divine and that he is the judge of all the world.

2. How do we learn about Jesus?

2 Timothy 3:15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15

2 Timothy 3:15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Revealed Knowledge of God: What God tells us about himself in the Bible. This tells us who the true God is and what Jesus has done for us.

2. How do we learn about Jesus? We learn about Jesus only from the Bible.

4. What is the Bible?

1 Thessalonians 2:13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

1 Thessalonians 2:13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.

4. What is the Bible? The Bible is God’s Word.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
