Psalm 25:21 Principles of Truth and the Scriptures May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope is in you. H ope

My Hope. My Faith. The Truth of Inspiration: The principle of inspiration informs us that human writers were the true authors of Scriptures, in full command of their faculties and literary skills, while at the same time they were inspired by God to be instruments of God (the original divine author) for the communication of God's word to all humankind. Thus, the Bible is the true Word of God in the words of human beings. The Truth of Inerrancy: The principle of inerrancy ensures us that Scriptures are fundamentally free from error in knowledge concerning spiritual or religious matters. This is true because the human authors only wrote that which God wanted to communicate to us; thus the Scriptures firmly, faithfully and without error, teach the truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wishes to have written in the sacred Scriptures.

My Hope. My Faith. The Truth of Revelation: Revelation is the truth revealed to humankind by God. The main source for God's revelation is the sacred Scriptures as encompassed in the living Tradition of the teaching and worship community known as the Church. The Truth of Infallibility: The principle infallibility ensures us that the Church always teaches the truth of God's message. According to Catholic doctrine, through divine assistance and God's guidance, the Church is free from error in teachings on matters of faith and morals as they are passed down through sacred Scripture and by the living Tradition of the Church.

My Hope. My Faith. Scientific Truth: Observations regarding the universe we live in (Eccl 1:5) The sun rises and the sun goes down, and hurries to the place where it rises. Historical Truth: Records and stories of past events and deeds (2 King 25:1) And in the ninth year of his rein, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, King Nebuchadnezzer of Babylon came with his armies against Jerusalem. Moral Truth: Lessons and rules about good behaviour (Lev 19:17-18) You shall not hate in your heart any one of your kin…but you shall love your neighbour as yourself. Proverbial Truth: Short saying of common sense wisdom (Sir 3:5) Those who honour their father will have joy in their own children.

My Hope. My Faith. Symbolic Truth: Poetic language used to emphasize a lesson (Mt 5:29) If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for you whole body to be thrown into hell. Religious Truth: Belief and faith in God's action in our life (Jn 3:16) For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
