DRAW NEAR: TRUE WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH

I. WORSHIP IN SPIRIT

John 4:21-24-“Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in

Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a

time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of

worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

William Barclay, “True and genuine worship is not to come to a certain place; it is not to go through a certain ritual or liturgy; it is not even bringing certain gifts.

True worship is when the spirit, the immortal and invisible part of man, speaks to and meets with God, who is immortal and invisible.”

II. WORSHIP IN TRUTH

Genesis 22:5-“Abraham said to his young men, ‘Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go up there and worship.”

Amos 5: “Away with your hymns of praise! They are only noise to my ears. I will not listen to your music, no matter how

lovely it is. Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, a river of righteous living that will never run dry.”

Isaiah 1:19 “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.”

III. WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH BRINGS GOD’S REVELATION OF HIMSELF

John 14:22-24 “Judas, not Iscariot, asked Him, ‘Lord how is that you will reveal Yourself-make Yourself real-to us and not to the world?’ Jesus

answered, ‘If a person really loves Me, he will keep my word (obey my teaching) and My father will love him, and We will come to him and make

Our home (abode, special dwelling place) with him. Anyone who does not (really) love Me does not observe and obey My teaching.’”

Both men went to the same church, on the same Sunday morning. Each found what he was looking for.
