Quick Facts and Figures University since 2005; student-focussed (minimal research income, no research degree awarding powers) 18K Students (12k FTE) 1350 Staff (650 academic faculty) Income £100m pa, surplus £4.6m % first entrants; 40% disadvantaged; 30% from Southampton- south Hampshire Maritime and Marine, Media and Culture, Sport. My Role One of 4 deputies to Vice Chancellor (= rector/CEO) My portfolio: knowledge exchange (KE), employability, corporate comms, skills partnerships, student satisfaction, green agenda, health and safety. Line manage 2 services (LIS and RIU). Manage funding council relationship (HEFCE). Priorities at start: sort out budget and focus of KE & corp comms. Then came employability. Solution: merge and re-focus. Work with HEFCE on funding. Next year : develop new team and offer...and ?? RJB July 2011

Fees and the new offer Average fee of 7.8K from (most Unis 8-9k). ‘Striking a fair balance’ between investment (estate/student experience) and student debt. Being ‘distinctive’. Work related learning through out the curriculum 100 new internships New support for student start ups (course, mentoring, capital, incubation space) Extensive student enterprise & volunteering opportunities (400+) RJB July 2011
