Unlike Rabbis of His Day - Jesus Had a different notion of kingdom. Claimed special role - he would personally establish & embody the kingdom Claimed himself as the sole judge of the truth of what he taught Used parables Performed miracles
Jesus & His Disciples: A Unique Relationship Different from that of other rabbis & their followers Disciples did not choose Jesus, he called them.
Jesus & His Disciples: A Unique Relationship He called them to a lasting relationship with him. They were called to share his mission.
So, for us to be disciples today: Have a personal, lasting relationship with God. Share Jesus’ mission in proclaiming his kingdom.
The 12 Apostles Israelites at 1 time had 12 tribes - each descending from Jacob’s 12 sons. The 12 apostles were the foundation of a new community of faith, a new Israel the Christian church.
The 12 Apostles Apostle: from Greek word “to send forth” They shared Jesus’ power. After Jesus’ death & resurrection they continued to preach, heal & make disciples through baptizing in his name.
The 12 Apostles Ordinary people, who, because of Jesus were capable of extraordinary things.
