Types of Models Physical models: Your model airplanes, dolls. Mathematical models: Weather forecasts. Conceptual Models: Atoms, and the creation of the universe.

Physical Models Scientists use Physical models to see how things work before they make the final product. This is safer and less expensive. Why?

Mathematical model Scientists figure stuff out using math. Some can be so complex only computers can figure them out!! This weather map is the result of Mathematical modeling.

Conceptual Models Basically a system of ideas that form theories. In the case of the atom to the left, it is too small to really see, so scientists create a conceptual model to show what they think it looks like.

Measurement Scientists need to use the same method for measuring so they can compare their measurements. Scientists always use the Metric system. Picture is of a metric ruler.

Temperature Temperature is the measure of how hot or cold an object is. Scientists use Celsius to describe the temperature of an object. 30's hot,20's nice 10's cold, zero's ice.
