 Towns were dirty  No running water  Waste and garbage thrown in streets – polluted rivers  Rats and fleas were common, carried disease  Common diseases: measles, cholera, scarlet fever YUCK!

Did their best to keep clean!  Cleaned teeth with cloth; some used herbal pastes  Bad teeth were pulled out; no anesthesia  Washed hands  Bathed in wooden barrels; cold water – wealthy had warm  Scented clothing with lavender, rose petals, chamomile, daisies
