+ Vietnam Adopted writing, language, Confucian ideals, bureaucracy, and religion Adapted urban life, administration, education, architecture and administration Women had an important role- had a say in their spouse and could divorce them After fall of the Tang Dynasty- regained autonomy Still copied Chinese ideas (ex: bureaucracy) Started their own dynastic cycles

+ Korea China’s refugees from the warring states moved to Korea and spread farming, writing techniques, and Mahayana Buddhism Conquered by Han Dynasty and imposed Confucianism Silla paid tribute to China- adopted writing, architecture, civil service, promoted Mahayana Buddhism Government ruled by local aristocratic families Decile of Silla- Paekche and Koguryo emerged Koryo conquered the Silla empire and modeled their capital after Chang’an Built their own great wall Enforced civil services

Minamoto clan- dominate military leader called shogun.
