The Housing Dilemma Meghan Barr and Kim Widinski February 23, 2004

Introduction There is a house I want to live at next year with some friends. I was telling my parents about it but when they found out some of my roommates would be guys they refused to let me live there and completely stopped the whole housing conversation.

Step 1 I was upset and frustrated.

Step 2 I was upset and frustrated that my parents didn’t trust my decision and that they completely dropped the subject.

step 3a

Step 3a I was upset that they didn’t trust me. I was upset that they didn’t trust my friends. I was frustrated that they shut off the conversation all together. I was frustrated that they were treating me like a child that couldn’t make my own decisions.

Step 3 b

My parents might not think that it's appropriate for a girl to be living with boys. My parents don’t know the guys very well. Living with guys will be messy and loud, and distract me from my work. My parents are nervous about me having male roommates.

Step 4 The exercise made me think more about my parents’ side and their concerns about the situation.
