8 TH Grade Reading TEST #1 40/40=100% Purpose: To assess your understanding of the course syllabus, rules, procedures, notes, and Unit 1 theme: Citizenship. This teacher will use the data to drive instruction by determining which students need more practice (3), need to receive reinforcement on specific information (2), and or need re teaching (1).

Directions: Restate the question and use accurate grammar, writing conventions, and punctuation to construct responses. 1.In class, we created something to help us remember the 12 Pillars of Character. Fill in the blanks: 4C 1H 1K 2P 2R 1S 1T 12pts Note: This question does not require a complete sentence because it asks you to only fill in the blank spaces

Directions: Restate the question and use accurate grammar, writing conventions, and punctuation to construct responses. 2. Which 3 of the 12 Pillars of Character do you think are the most important and why? Example: Of the 12 pillars, the 3 that are most important are: honesty, perseverance, tolerance because they demonstrate how I plan to perform in school and beyond. 4pts

Directions: Restate the question and use accurate grammar, writing conventions, and punctuation to construct responses. 3. Of the 3 pillars of character you chose, which do you think is the MOST important? Explain why? Example: Of the three pillars, honesty, tolerance, and perseverance, the most important is honesty. If your peers and parents know that you are honest and trustworthy you will not be questioned when a situation arises and you would be a possible suspect or accomplice. 4pts

Directions: Restate the question and use accurate grammar, writing conventions, and punctuation to construct responses. 4. “If you only knew” was a writing assignment in the first 2 weeks of school. What are your thoughts on the benefits a teacher may have after reading a student’s work? Example: The benefits that a teacher may have after reading a student’s If You Only Knew is an insight into what the student enjoys doing beyond the classroom, how he or she feels about school, and what the student hopes to achieve this year. 2pts

Directions: Restate the question and use accurate grammar, writing conventions, and punctuation to construct responses. 5. From the Comparing Rights and Responsibilities assignment, analyze the differences between American rights and Kenyan rights by stating how they differ and how are they are similar. Example: The differences between American rights and Kenyan rights are not many. In fact, there are more similarities than differences. Note: You should create a Venn Diagram to plan your response. Students read aloud and share responses in triad group. 4pts

Directions: Restate the question and use accurate grammar, writing conventions, and punctuation to construct responses. 6. In our classroom we have a saying or motto that explains how we treat information shared by others in the class. What is our class motto? 2pts Our class motto is: “What happens in Jamaica, stays in Jamaica.” Note: Students are encouraged to share lessons and discussions with friends and parents but need to be understanding if for example, someone shares personal feelings or they learn about other’s disabilities or life.

Directions: Restate the question and use accurate grammar, writing conventions, and punctuation to construct responses. 7. On the Course Syllabus, what was your parent/guardian asked to give permission for you to be able to do as a part of your learning? On the Course Syllabus, parents/guardians were asked to give permission for students to be able to watch movies relevant to learning and expanding on topics discussed in class.
