Make-up work For Semester 1
Time to pretend you are Odysseus and write a POSTCARD FROM THE EPIC EDGE
Select an episode of the Odyssey that you especially understand and enjoy. You may choose up to THREE (3) episodes.
One side of the card should have a visual representation (these are PICTURE postcards). Create a picture for that episode that illustrates your understanding of one of the events of that episode from Odysseus’s point of view. For example, it could be a portrait of Scylla, a picture of Circe’s house in the woods, or a picture of Odysseus tied to the mast, listening to the Sirens’ songs. You can draw the picture or use cut-outs from magazines to represent characters you encounter.
The other side of the card needs a written description of the scene and a few details from the story – written from Odysseus to his wife Penelope. Requirements: ◦ It has to sound like Odysseus – his POV ◦ It has to sound like a husband writing to his wife ◦ You have remember: he may not want to tell his wife every little detail. (It’s Odysseus, after all, and he’s not know for telling the whole truth.)
You can write up to THREE (3) postcards from three different episodes. They need to be postcard size: 4x6 is a good size. They are due no later than Wednesday, January 23. Absolutely no cards accepted after that date. Each card is worth up to 15 points in extra credit in the Writing Assignments category (highest percentage category)

Dear Penelope, We have just left the shores of Troy and I am on my way home to you and our son. He must be ten years old by now – how I have missed seeing him grow up! I know you have raised him to be a strong, clever boy who will be a glorious warrior and a good king, like his father. Telemachus will be proud of his father who was awarded Hector’s armor for his bravery and who came up with the way to defeat the Trojans. I have much to teach him! Watch over him for me, my love. I am on my way home. Your Odysseus
