Aim: How does the heart pump blood?

Coronary Circulation Coronary arteries supply the heart muscle with nutrients and oxygen

Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction) Circulatory System Some symptoms of a heart attack are: Chest discomfort Shortness of breath The person can be helped by: Performing CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation Electric shock Drug therapy The disease upsets homeostasis by: Stopping the flow of blood through the heart damaging heart muscle

Atrial Flutter affects the Circulatory System Some symptoms of atrial flutter may include chest palpitations, a rapid/slower pulse, an irregular/regular pulse, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, sensation of tightness in the chest, and confusion. Treatment may include medications which slow the heartbeat. This disease affects homeostasis through clot formation. In atrial flutter, the heart beats irregularly, and there is no effective contraction of the atria. For people with heart disease, this causes a stasis of blood in the atria, and this may lead to the formation of clots within the heart. Atrial Flutter

Aim: What is blood? Blood is made up of red blood cells and many types of white blood cells

Production of blood cells

Human blood smear

Structure of the cell membrane Outside of cell Inside of cell (cytoplasm) proteins Cell membrane Protein channel Lipid bilayer Carbohydrate

Blood Type Blood is a complex, living tissue that contains many cell types and proteins

Agglutinogens are attached to the surface of red blood cells ABO blood type classification system

The lymph system's primary function is to isolate infection and cellular detritus from the rest of the body. The lymph system transports lymph fluid through ever-widening vessels, moving it through 500 filtration and collection points - your lymph nodes.
