GCM GATEWAY System Architecture

Gateway System Functions REAL-TIME  Data collection  Data validation and fusion  Data distribution Types of Data Sources  Traffic Management Centers  Emergency Dispatch Centers  Weather Sensor Systems  DOTs/Tollway

Implementation with COTS  Programming Languages: Java/C++/html/…  Database Management System: Versant Object-oriented database  OS platforms: UNIX/Windows  C2C and internal Inter-Process Communication: Iona CORBA “Orbs”

Gateway C2C Interface Components  Gateway Data Object Model (GDOM) - defines data format  Gateway Message Oriented Middleware (GMOM) - defines data exchange mechanism All defined in CORBA Interface Definition Language

Gateway Data Object Model Uses Standards  TMDD – Traffic Management Data Dictionary  MS/ETMC2 – Message Sets for External Traffic Management Center Communication  LRMS – Location Referencing Message Specifications  Southern California Priority Corridor ShowCase Project

GDOM Location Resolution Referencing Methods: u Cross Street u Mile Post u Address u Coordinate u Ramp u Geometry or SegmentID based Types: u Point u Section u Lane Based on the LRMS Standard

Data Collection / GMOM TMDD IM 1512 MS/ETMCC 511- ATIS GDOM IDL LRMS XML C2C CORBA Gateway Use of Standards

Gateway Message Oriented Middleware GMOM  Defines a Publisher/Subscriber model based data exchange protocol  Based on CORBA Event Service  Uses a sophisticated Mediator Channel

Gateway’s Use of XML  Gateway now publishing real-time data in XML Schema file.  XML data file made available to external users via protected WebPages.  Gateway XML Schema similar to J2354 ATIS standard

Summary u The GCM Gateway TIS is a complex system providing real-time traveler information to the public and agencies in a 3-state metropolitan region. u Gateway was developed by applying available standards. u The C2C CORBA standard is the basis for integration and interoperability with a wide variety of systems. u Gateway will be a primary data source for the Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana 511 Systems.
