Rail Is On The Way

Legal Issues Courts forced Los Angeles County to spend $1 billion to buy buses, add service and maintain low fares after class action suit that alleged MTA had established “an expensive, boondoggle rail system … and a dilapidated deteriorated bus system for 94 percent of the riders, 81 percent of whom are people of color Class action lawsuit alleging MTC channeled funds to benefit predominantly white rail riders a the expense of bus riders of color. Suit was settled four years later with judge saying funding changes MTC made over four-year period made up for prior difference. Suit claims that regional funding has systematically under-funded inner-city bus and L train service for the benefit of suburban train lines, therefore denying equal transportation access to the region’s minority populations and violated federal and state law. Suit filed on Jan. 6, 2010.

Quick Summary Funding is down Falling behind peers Can’t adequately support rail Possible legal issues Need Financial Capacity

Dedicated Funding

Getting Up To Speed Requires Dedicated Funding ‘Smart ‘ Streets Connecting Transit and Land Use Walking And Bicycling Infrastructure Expansion Of Transit Services (Bus And Rail) New Transit Modes (Rail And Signature Express Bus) High Capacity Transit On Major Travel Corridors Constructing Turn Bays ‘Smart’ Shelters Traffic Channelization Lighting Improvements Reduced Neighborhood Traffic Bike Paths

Transit Supporters In Florida

They Did It …So Can We Phoenix 1% Sales Tax Charlotte Half Cent Sales Tax

You Are The Leaders “Florida may be on the verge of a transit renaissance. In our ten years of doing outreach and marketing for transit, we have never seen such general and across-the-board support for better public transit. Gas at $4 a gallon proved to be a tipping point.” Denis Eirikis President Clear Light Communications Inc.
