Oda Nobunaga The first leader that reunites Japan was Oda Nobunaga When political order was broken down and daimyo were fighting each other Oda gave his soldiers guns to easily defeat his enemies

Tokugawa Ieyasu After Odas death following his footsteps Tokugawa Ieyasu, conquered his enemies by the 1600s and became the new shogun in 1603 starting the Rule by shoguns of the Tokugawa family. During the Tokugawa clan rule, Japan started to have contact with the outside world. The Tokugawa clan ruled Japan until 1608.

Isolation of Japan Because of fear that Japan would become too much like Europe and the Shoguns would lose power the Shoguns isolated Japan by cutting off contact with the outside world. In addition to this the Shoguns also banned guns and limited technological progress resulting the period of the samurai lasting until the 1800s.
