Science – Mrs. Irwin Units: Ecology Cells and Heredity Adaptations over time Science Fair Project- required for Advanced Cell projects after Christmas break
Social Studies We will be discussing the following regions: Southwest Asia (the Middle East) Asia Africa Region highlights: Geography Culture History Government Religion Economy Students will complete several projects throughout the year. All projects count as test grades.
Social Studies Current Events We have current event assignments for each unit of study. Expect about 2-3 current events per unit. These should be from a reliable news source. Students must document the source used. Common Core Our areas of study did not change, but the type of questions on the test have changed. More critical thinking is required with written response questions instead of just multiple choice.

Think Through Math - TTM Replaced Successmaker. I strongly encourage students to use extra class time and literacy to do TTM. Students can access this program from home. If students complete 10 lessons (pre to post test) in 9 weeks, they will receive an extra credit quiz grade. Other Information: I offer tutoring as needed. Students must see me to schedule this and get a pass for the agenda. If a student fails a quiz or test, test corrections are allowed. The highest grade they will receive is a 75%.
Reading Reading Logs are different. Students record passed RC quizzes for each term. Parents will sign those instead of the weekly log. Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) – determines Lexile scores Reading Counts (RC) Millionaire Book Club Spanish placement for 8 th grade Based on county rubric Reading average and standardized test scores are a part of the rubric. Students may read novels 100 points below their lexile. There is not a limit on how high they may go. Students with lexiles above 1000 may read 950 level books and above. Advanced-4 independent RC books per term. On-Level-3 independent RC book per term. Independent reading grade (IR)- weekly grade for in class/media center reading time.
Book Fair October 5 th – 9 th (7:30 A.M.-4 P.M.) Proceeds help buy new books for our Media Center Mrs. West is in need of parent volunteers. her or stop by tonight to get the volunteer paperwork.
Language Arts – Ms. White Grammar We will focus on the use of correct grammar/mechanics to improve writing. Vocabulary/ Spelling We will have alternating vocabulary & spelling lessons weekly. Writing Writing Process through personal narrative Informational/Expository Writing Persuasive/argumentative Writing Technical Writing
7 th Grade Reminders Sign agenda daily and make sure your student is writing essential items! Send a note when a student is absent Checkout the website for teacher pages, homework, contact information, etc. is the best way for contact. We can check several times a day. 7 th grade behavior point card is on page 10. Please review this weekly to help us maximize your child’s success.
7 th Grade Information Continued GO – Grizzly Opportunity. Students failing Reading and Math at first quarter progress report or any report card will enter GO. Other screening tests may also place students into GO. Benchmarks for all subjects are now test grades. You can find a link to current standards for all subjects on the county website if you would like more details about the current curriculum.
