Introduction to Treatment 18 Treatment Site – A treatment operation outside a restricted place for the purposes of treating vehicles. Usually an established premises with a treatment area and equipment Treatment Pad – An area on a Restricted Place set up for the treatment of vehicles Treatment Terminology

Introduction to Treatment 19 Treatment Definitions Contamination – Presence of a substance that could harbour the unwanted organism on a surface e.g. fat, protein (blood, tissue, secretions), faeces, ingesta, and dirt Decontaminate - Cleaning and disinfecting an infected place, conveyor or risk good to remove the ability of an infective agent to act as a source of infection

Introduction to Treatment 20 Treatment Definitions Cleaning – The removal of visible contamination from surfaces Disinfecting - Using a disinfectant to destroy disease carrying micro-organisms pH – The level of acidity/alkalinity of a water solution on a scale of 1 to 14 –pH 7 is neutral (neither acidic or alkaline) –below 7 is acidic (e.g. citric acid) –above 7 is alkaline (e.g. Sodium Hydroxide)
