About Me As a Social Science Department Chair at Ganesha High School in Pomona, California I have found,Technology to be a very powerful tool to be incorporated into my curriculum. I use it to give my students a different perspective of world views when they browse through various News-Papers around the Globe for their various projects. Assignment Description This CTAP 295 project was designed for my American Government students to learn about the division of powers between National and State governments. It was designed to be both educational and interactive for the student. Standards Addressed Standard for Twelfth Grade United States Government This unit addresses the following California History/Social Science Content Standard for twelfth grade United States Government. Standards Addressed Standard for Twelfth Grade United States Government Standard 12.7: Using a Graphic Organizer,(On a Venn Diagram) the students will be able to compare and contrast powers of the National Government with the State Government. ways in which his or her health and well-being can be enhanced and maintained. This standard will really be helpful for my students in order to succeed in life. By identifying local powers, they will be able to Know where to go if they have to pull an electric power for their backyard or a room addition permit. Educational Objectives By the end of the lesson, the students will :- Describe the difference between the expressed,implied,and inherent powers. Compare and contrast powers of the national government with the state governments using a graphic organizer. understanding of this subject area in comparison to the pre and post tests. Overview of Student Activities Introductory Activity Teacher shows transparencies on the overhead and discusses about the national and state governments. Teacher also projects terms related to national and/or state governments. Enabling Activity Using the web sites,students will browse through various newspapers to access some pictures and have them identified with the national and state level. From each picture students will answer ‘WH’ questions and record their information drawn from the pictures on a venn diagram. Students will add at least two more examples of each type of power in the appropriate section of the graph. Culminating Activity Divide the students into three groups and have each group discuss Delegated, Reserved,and Concurrent powers in their respective group. As a culminating activity assign each group to draw a picture of national,state or concurrent power and write a paragraph about it.
