Predicates

Definitions… What is a predicate? The predicate is what the subject is doing in the sentence (verb).

Examples of the Complete Predicate… The phone rang. –rang is the predicate because it is telling you what the phone (subject) is doing. Old Faithful is a giant geyser in Yellowstone National Park. –is a giant geyser in Yellowstone National Park is the predicate because it is telling about the subject which is Old Faithful.

Examples of the Simple Predicate… Sarah cleaned the filthy house. Billy took his dog on a walk.
