Supporting SOA: Metadata and Governance in Action February 25, 2010 presents… The Premiere Organization for Data Professionals Worldwide As organizations attempt to adopt and implement advanced technologies, they often discover that a successful implementation requires a higher degree of data governance maturity than had been anticipated. SOA provides us with a textbook example but the lessons learned here also apply to other major organizational data-driven initiatives. --- Continued on Next Page :30 AM – 12:00 PM Agenda Supporting SOA: Metadata and Governance in Action 7:30-8:15 Registration/ Continental Breakfast 8:15-8:30 Chapter Business 8:30-10:00 Supporting SOA - Dr. Peter Aiken 10:00-10:15 Mid-morning break 10:15-11:30 Peter Aiken, part 2 11:30-12:00 Q&A Event Location VOA Center (U of Miami) 7847 VOA Park Drive, West Chester Attending this event provides the opportunity to learn from the former Computer Scientist for the CIO of the US Defense Information Systems Agency, as well as the opportunity to network with fellow Data Management professionals.

Key Drivers behind SOA Changing focus from managing systems to managing at least an order of magnitude more services Changing focus from managing systems to managing at least an order of magnitude more services Architecting those services to be flexible and adaptable in order to obtain the desired service reuse Architecting those services to be flexible and adaptable in order to obtain the desired service reuse Providing increased guidance over both the architecture / engineering of services and their use by requisite business processes Providing increased guidance over both the architecture / engineering of services and their use by requisite business processes It is impossible to manage the above without implementing a mature data governance process. This seminar describes the how organizations should use a data governance-based approach when implementing SOA and other projects that are dependent on proper metadata management. We show how to use data governance to "size" projects, set mutually agreed upon business and technical expectations, and perform verification and validation of key project milestones and deliverables. Implementation of these will prevent your SOA project from becoming another failure statistic - and more importantly - lay the groundwork for successful and noticeable business innovation. Attendees will come to understand the: Theory, design and motivation behind SOA Theory, design and motivation behind SOA Key Elements of data governance required in order to manage the required metadata Key Elements of data governance required in order to manage the required metadata Hard and soft skill sets mandated in order to achieve success Hard and soft skill sets mandated in order to achieve success --- Biography on Next Page ---

He has consulted with organizations in dozens of countries helping them to do more with their data. Data problems are one of the key issues facing organizations as the pace of international commerce and cooperation increase around the world. Various initiatives from outsourcing, to "extreme" systems development, to business engineering increasingly rely on good quality data exchanges. Dr. Aiken's research methods, associates, and projects increase the effectiveness with which data assets are focused in support of organizational strategy. He has authored or co-authored six books and many other publications including XML for Data Management ( Morgan Kaufmann). Dr. Aiken's achievements have resulted in recognition as one of 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century and bibliographic entries in Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in American Education and other biographical compilations.
