Sustainable mobility – any type of transportation that can help reduce environmental impact. This may include walking and cycling, ecological cars, transit-oriented development, rental of vehicles, public transit, which are economic, contribute to the preservation of space and promote healthy lifestyles.

Area: 182 km 2 Population: Density: 4000 people/km 2 Tram routes / lines – 10 / 73 km (100km), 70 vehicles Trolleybus routes/ lines – 10 / 117 km (200km), 60 v. Bus routes – 53 = , v. Cycling network – 40km / 268km

Challenge s

The decay of the city electric transport at the beginning of the 1990s. Lack of funds for the renovation and repair of rolling stock, technical facilities.

City ET virtually stopped and on its replacement came Peugeot minibuses. They began to duplicate trams and trolleybuses. Considering the low cost of fuel and high bus fares it’s became business, not the municipal service

2011: through the city center held more than 30 routes, making it difficult to move all transport and have made impact on the environment.

Major road repairs were not performed sometimes more than 80 years. Tram lines in some areas were 100% worn

Since 2008 construction of the tram line on the city's largest housing district has began, but due to lack of funding the project was suspended.

Sharply deteriorated air quality and noise pollution have increased, decreasing physical activity of residents

Lack of cycling infrastructure Cyclists protest in 2010

Solution s

In 2010 city signed a loan agreement with EBRD for € 38 mil. In 2011 has been started reconstruction of streets along the tram routes 2 and 6 This year has started the final stage

Has been started the traffic control center. The project is in cooperation with SWARCO. All trams and trolley buses are equipped with GPS-trackers and tram priority on the crossroads, and LED-timetables on the stops

2012: on the streets appeared more than 100 buses with low floor. Number of bus routes was reduced to 52 but passenger capacity has almost doubled

Svobody Avenue: improving conditions for public transport within the BRT project

In 2014, Lviv received a grant from the German government and EBRD loan to continue the project. The total amount of € million. Tram will start in the end of 2015

2013: presentation of the first Ukrainian low-floor tram Electron T5L64, which was made in Lviv. Ukrainian-German cooperation project 80/20%

In 2010 the City Council session approved the conception of cycling and related infrastructure improvement

In 2013 the city planned to have 50km bikeroutes. The three streets of14km bicycle paths were built by the German government grant funds

Main city square near City council in 2005 were drowning with cars From 2006 it has been changing every year into pedestrian area

Now it consists of 25 streets, 3 squares, with tram line through it, and lowest emissions in the city center

Since 2010, the city of Lviv annually joins the European Mobility Week

In very dense old city environment bicycles is a solution: 1 car = 8 bikes
