W HAT IS PARCC? The new state test and accountability measure for Illinois students. Based on the New Illinois Learning Standards Incorporating the Common Core. Math and English/Language Arts. All students in grades 3-8. For : Students take both parts of the summative exam: Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) and the End-of-Year Assessment (EOY)---Beware: MOY in future “Better measure” of skills than old multiple- choice format. Technology-enhanced items.
W HAT DO THEY MEAN “ A BETTER MEASURE ”? PARCC will test writing skills at every grade level and critical-thinking and problem-solving skills in an in-depth manner. Mathematical reasoning will be involved, not just getting the answer right. Complex passages will be read and evidence drawn from the material to make inferences and present a persuasive argument. Students will write essays. Ultimately, this test signals whether students are on track to succeed in college or careers.
W HAT ABOUT D IVERSE L EARNERS ? A Personal Needs Profile (PNP) is a digital version of accommodations and accessibility features needed by a student. It allows the testing system to “know” and provide the specific accessibility or accommodations a student needs automatically. Based on instructional observations and stated preferences by the parent on a student’s testing needs that have been found to increase access during instruction and assessment. Reviewed annually.
