Where is Indonesia ? Indonesia is an equatorial region near the Indian Ocean. Indonesians originate from 336 ethnic groups and influenced by peoples from China, Arabia, Indochina, and Europe. Indonesia has rain forest, beaches, volcanoes, and curious animals. More than 200 million people inhabit Indonesias 13,000 islands!

What is Batik? The wax-resist process or designing on fabric or paper. An Indonesian word meaning wax writing. The technique is at least 2,000 years old. It was used in such countries as China, Japan, Persia, and Egypt but reached its peak on the island of Java in Indonesia.

How is it done? When hot wax is applied to cloth or paper, it hardens then acts as a mask protecting that area from absorbing the dye or paint.
