Presentation transcript:

Your family is taking a trip across the USA starting this afternoon. In fact, your family is picking you up right from school and you are going to be leaving immediately. The problem is that no one knows how long the trip is going to take. Use your knowledge of rates and proportions to help your family determine how long they will be on the road.

From Iroquois Middle School to the NFL Hall of Fame is a total of 240 miles. If you are traveling at 60 miles per hour how long will this leg of the trip take?

From the NFL Hall of Fame you will be making your way to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri. The Gateway Arch is 558 miles from the Hall of Fame. How fast is your car traveling if it takes 9 hours to get there?

After visiting the Gateway Arch you will be driving to the Grand Canyon. This part of the trip will take 21 hours and your car will be traveling at an average speed of 69 miles per hour. How many miles is this part of the trip?

4) How many miles did your family travel in all? 5) If your car gets 51 miles per 2 gallons of gas, how many gallons will your family need to complete their trip? Round to the nearest gallon. 6) If gas costs $8.72 per 3 gallons, how much will the entire trip cost? Round to the nearest cent.
