Interrelationships between health and stages of development.

Stages of development When you are trying to answer a question relating to the impact of the individuals development you must think about the 4 areas. You then need to refer to the developmental milestones that occur in that age group. DO NOT REFER TO THE DIMENSIONS OF HEALTH, only do this if it is in the question.

Health Our health has 3 dimensions of health. For an individual to have optimal health they need all the dimensions of health to be equal. » SocialOptimalPhysical » Mental

What is the interrelationship between Health and Development For each stage of development give an example and justify your response of HOW health and development are interrelated. Consider, for example, intellectual development. This can proceed as expected, if growth and physical development take place to enable the brain to develop progressively in both structure and complexity over time.

Development - Health If an individual is physically healthy then they are likely to have the energy and stamina to be physically active and so continue or maintain positive physical development. Having enough sleep and eating healthy food helps to improve concentration and maximise intellectual development. Positive development will help motivate an individual to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Continued A person who has good social health will experience positive social and emotional development. This person is likely to have strong and meaningful relationships with family, friends and workmates. A person who has poor social health may find it difficult to relate to others and can become socially isolated. Their social and emotional development will be negatively affected.

Continued A person who is mentally healthy copes well with stress, is resilient, possesses a positive attitude and generally has positive thoughts. This directly supports positive intellectual, social and emotional development. However, a person who suffers from poor mental health, such as depression, can experience adverse effects on all aspects of development. They may withdraw socially, feel sad and inadequate and lack the confidence to learn new skills or use learnt skills. They may not eat a healthy diet and so both physical health and development could be adversely affected.

Continued Being healthy provides the framework for development to proceed and be maintained as expected, in all areas of individual human development.

Case study Wendy is a 34 year old school teacher. She participates in a Touch Football competition once a week and attends the gym 3 times a week. She has 2 young children and is recently divorced. She has been diagnosed with breast cancer which is benign, and is to undergo an operation to remove the tumour. Place Wendy on a health continuum now and 1 month earlier. What is the interrelationship between her health and her development in adulthood?
