God’s Work of Creation August 24

What about you … What have you always wanted to make but never tried? We are creative because we are made in the image of the Creator – Today we look at the Psalmist’s view of Creation – God’s creation is awesome!

Listen for images which describe God’s actions. Psalm 104:1-5 (NIV) 1 Praise the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. 2 He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent 3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their

Listen for images which describe God’s actions. waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. 4 He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. 5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

Creative Power List words or phrases which the psalmist uses to describe God? What figures are used to describe what God does? How is God involved in the events of the earth? What comparisons or similarities do you see with Genesis 1?

Creative Power How would you have felt to have had a 6 day grandstand seat to watch all of Genesis 1 happening? What part would you most have liked to see? What has recently inspired you to see some aspect of creation with newfound awe?

Listen for references to the sea. Psalm 104:24-26 (NIV) 24 How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. 25 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small. 26 There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.

Creative Power How can we reflect this sense of awe in our worship? How can we use our experiences of awe to share our faith with others?  We can share with others how this powerful and creative God wants a personal relationship with every individual

Creative Wisdom How much of creation did the psalmist attribute to the Lord? What words in verse 24 support your answer? What did the psalm writer learn from observing the sea? How have you seen God’s wisdom reflected in the natural world?

Creative Wisdom What attitude should we have toward God’s creation? How should our actions reflect our belief in God as Creator?

Listen for God’s provision. Psalm 104:27-30 (NIV) 27 These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. 28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. 29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. 30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.

Sustaining Love In what ways does the earth and all life depend on God? What examples did the psalmist provide that confirm the Lord is dependable? What areas in our lives do we need to learn to depend more on God’s sustaining power?

Sustaining Love What hinders us from recognizing God’s continual activity in sustaining both creation and our daily lives? How do we savor the God of creation who sustains us? What advice would you give to someone who admits to you that their needs are not being provided for … they are not being sustained?

Application As a devotional exercise, create acrostics using key words from our lesson today – CREATOR – PROVIDER – SUSTANER C R E ver Faithful A lways Sufficient T O R eally Wonderful C R E ver Faithful A lways Sufficient T O R eally Wonderful

Application Be thankful – As you awake each day this week, thank the Lord of love for the new day – Before you go to sleep each night, thank Him for the day … He gave it to you

Application Let something go – This week sacrifice some time with the TV … at the golf course … or any other recreational activity – Spend the time walking and praying outdoors – Ask God to open your eyes, ears, and heart to how His love for you is shown in creation – Thank Him for each blessing
