Assessing Self-Esteem This activity assesses respondents’ level of self-worth. Acknowledgements: This demonstration was written by Martin Bolt, Calvin College

Exploring the Self Hundreds of thousands of articles have been published on the exploration of the self. Underlying this research is an assumption that the self, as organizer of our thoughts, feelings, and actions, is a pivotal center of personality.

On the Self-Esteem Scale your TOTAL score was between: A. 0 and 8 B. 9 and 16 C. 17 and 24 D. 25 and 32 E. 33 and 40

Interpretation of Scores Research suggests that most people view themselves quite favorably. Higher self-esteem seems to be associated with greater happiness, initiative, and resilience. At the same time, research does not support the claim that low self-esteem produces major personal or social problems.

Consider This… How do childhood experiences shape one’s self- concept? What are the most important sources of self- esteem? Should schools offer self-esteem classes to foster students’ sense of self-worth? How would you define humility? Can a person with high self-esteem be humble?
