Presentation transcript:

The sun is the closest star to the earth. This is the earth, our home. We spin, or rotate, while we orbit around the sun. The moon is just a big chunk of rock that orbits around the earth.

The sun stands still, the sun stands still, the earth revolves around the sun, the sun stands still.

The moon does not make it’s own light. Why is it so white and bright? The sun shines on the moon, and the moon reflects the light. Like shining a flashlight on a ball.

Look at the pattern…

When the moon goes around the earth (click), the sunlight shines on the moon. We can only see part of the moon.

Just once! The moon takes 1 month to go around the earth.

Light so we can see. Without the sun, it would look like this… Heat and warmth so we can go to the beach!

The plants need the sun, too. The sun helps the plants make food to grow!

Name two things we get from the sun. A.Water and heat B.Light and water C.Heat and light D.Air and light Heat and light

Which moon phase is missing? ? A B C D

When the sun is low on the horizon, what time of day could it be?

When the sun is high in the sky, it is the middle of the day, or lunchtime! Can you tell if it is morning, noon, or night?

SO, NOW YOU KNOW!!!
