The United States of America Let’s learn about the 50 States

States That Begin With A Alabama: is a warm southern state Alaska: is the largest and coldest state Arizona: has a dry climate with canyons and rock formations Arkansas: is known as the natural state (it has mountains, forests, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and mineral springs)

States That Begin With C California: has more people living in their state than in any other state Colorado: has lots of skiing and hiking in the Rocky Mountains Connecticut: has many factories that build submarines, clocks, helicopters, locks, and silverware

States That Begin With D, F, G, & H Delaware: was the 1 st of the 13 colonies to become a state Florida: has more than a 1000 miles of sandy beaches Georgia: is known as the largest state east of the Mississippi River Hawaii: is the youngest state and is a chain of islands

States That Begin With I Idaho: has many mountains and rivers Illinois: has big cities and farmland in the countryside Indiana: has small towns, cornfields, cold winters, and hot summers Iowa: has over 100,000 farms

States That Begin With M & N Missouri: was the “Gateway to the West” when the pioneers traveled through Montana: has wide open spaces with very less than a million residents Nebraska: most of the land here is used for farming Nevada: has the lowest rainfall of any state

States That Begin With N New Hampshire: has colorful falls, crisp winters and quiet villages New Jersey: has many farms, beaches, and is densely populated New Mexico: has modern technology and old traditions as a part of the people’s life

States That Begin With N New York: has endless things to see and do in it’s largest city, New York North Carolina: has mountains, hills, and beaches North Dakota: was populated in the late 1800s by the Homesteaders

States That Begin With O Ohio: our state is known for having many factories Oklahoma: is the home to more American Indians that any other state Oregon: people began to immigrate to this state in 1842 along the Oregon Trail

States That Begin With R & S Rhode Island: is the smallest of the fifty states South Carolina: has hot, humid summers, mild winter and many beaches. Also, the Civil War began here South Dakota: has many prairie grasslands. Also the home of Mt. Rushmore

States That Begin With T & U Tennessee: is known for mountains and country music Texas: is the second largest state and has oil drilling and refining Utah: the Mormon pioneers came here in 1847 and the landscape has many fantastic rock formations

States That Begin With V & W Vermont: is a rural state with small towns, villages, and farms Virginia: home of the first successful English colony in Jamestown, in 1607 Washington: has wet weather on the west side and dry climate on the east side

States That Begin With W West Virginia: was part of Virginia but became a separate state during the Civil War Wisconsin: has thousands of lakes and is famous for dairy products (especially cheese) Wyoming: has the smallest population of all the states and is home of the world’s first national park (Yellowstone)

The 50 States Now that we have been introduced to the 50 states we can learn more about them. How many states begin with the letter M? Answer is 8. How many states begin with the letter I? Answer is 4.
