Migrant/Seasonal Head Start National Overview Serve nearly 37,000 migrant children and nearly 2,500 seasonal children annually, Operate in 40 states in every region of the country, Provide coordinated services to mobile families and children as they migrate from state to state, Are seasonal in nature providing services in some areas for 2 months and other areas for 10 months, Provide extended hours service, 12 hours a day, and often 6 days a week, Have served migrant children and families since 1969, Have served seasonal children and families since 1999

HCS Head Start Migrant Local Overview HCS Head Start is the Migrant Grantee for Massachusetts, In 2009, 73 children ages 0 to 5 were served in Springfield, In 2010, HCS Head Start was awarded MHS expansion and granted Seasonal status, Current enrollment is 131 Migrant children ages 0 to 5.

Definition of Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Migrant farm workers- a Head Start program that serves families who are engaged in agricultural labor and who have changed their residence from one geographic location to another in the preceding 2-year period; and Seasonal farm workers- a Head Start program that serves families who are engaged primarily in seasonal agricultural labor and who have not changed their residence to another geographic location in the preceding 2-year period.
