Good Evening Parents and Welcome to SOMS Back to School Night September 10, 2015 Mrs. M. Coronel Eighth Grade Science Teacher Room 219

Welcome to another school year Teacher’s Introduction I am Mrs. CORONEL, I am your child’s science teacher this year. Certified to Teach Science 7-12 in the State of Maryland Twelve years experience of teaching middle school science. Eight years at SOMS. This year I will be working with Mrs. McKenna, a student-teacher intern from the University of Maryland.

Supplies 1 ½ inch binder 1 pack reinforced filler paper Glue Scissors Colored pencil or crayons Large book cover Pencils

Science Grading Policy Class Works 40% (reading guide worksheets, practice worksheets, group work, labs, oral presentations) Homework15% (once a week, given on Monday, due on Friday) Assessment45% (tests/quizzes, projects, journal)

Notebook or Journal The most important communication tools between you (parent) and me (teacher) and your child’s grade. Most of the things that we do in class (notes, class works, home works, tests) is placed in their journal. Is a good monitoring tool for your child’s performance.

Notebook or Journal Every quarter, journal will be checked and graded as an assessment according to the following: 1. Results of notebook quiz 50% 2. Completion of all the required pages 40% 3. Neatness of putting journal together 10% Extra credit will be given for going above and beyond.

My schoolnotes page is up and running. Homework, classwork, reminders is posted in this site. When you open my page I encourage you to sign up for notification so that you can receive updates when I make changes on schoolnotes. How to access:

Textbook Textbook is given, it cost $94. Workbook cost $85, this is consumable. HOW TO ACCESS: 1. Use the URL : Then use student’s ID number plus pgcps to login. For example: - If a student's PGCPS student number is ' ', then the student's ConnectED credential is: - login name pgcps - password pgcps

Schoolmax I encourage you to check schoolmax at least once a week so you can see the grades of your child in a weekly basis. It is a very good tool to see the progression of your child in each content area. It shows the completed work or the missing work the your child. Best way to prevent your child from falling behind is to know what they are missing and try to work on it before its too late.
