Are you in the giving mood? In addition to the supplies you sent in, there are a couple of extra things we could use in the classrooms. –For example: bottles of Clorox wipes, zip lock bags and baskets. Likewise as we continue throughout the year, we will be asking for different materials for different projects. Thanks in advance for these extra supplies.

Class Fee $40 - Pays for Field Trips, the end of the year celebration Please make check payable to: Key School 1 st Grade Fund Thank you to all of you who have already given me the check.

Library Library day is on Friday. Students need to bring back their books by Thursday so that on Friday we will all be ready to check out. If your student forgets to bring their books on Thursday, please have them bring it on Friday.

Birthday Celebrations Birthdays are fun to celebrate. However, we are short on time and have to be aware of food allergies. Therefore, if your child would like to bring in a snack to celebrate his/her birthday we ask the following: –We will celebrate birthdays at 3:20pm, which will take place in your child’s afternoon class. –Please bring in cupcakes, muffin, cookies, cut up fruit, etc –If you bring in a drink it must be in individual boxes. –In addition, if you don’t want to bring food, you could bring small prizes for the kids (ex. erasers., pencils, stickers etc.) * We have a handful of students with serious food allergies so please be extra mindful when bringing in birthday treats.

Tally Mark Sheet and Marble Jar Each class has there own tally mark sheet and marble jar. These two things are what Sra. Rojas and I use for behavior management.

Responsive Classroom Practices: Morning Meeting Collaborative Rule Creation Interactive Modeling Positive Teacher Language Collaboration with families and between teachers

Classroom Management Positive reinforcement Responsible list Collaborative problem-solving - Work together with students to solve academic and social problems and teach them skills for solving problems with increasing independence Teacher Language - Reinforcing, Reminding, and Redirecting – Using words as tools to promote learning community, and self-discipline Logical Consequences – Respond to misbehavior with consequences that are supportive of students’ efforts to learn how to fix their mistakes “Take a Break” Chair In cases of extreme behaviors, we will address administration or school counselor as necessary. Fighting, bullying, and threats are immediately reported to administration.

English Homework Students will be expected to read at least 20 minutes every night with an adult or independently. In addition, they will have daily word study homework with a test on Friday. As well, occasional projects will be assigned throughout the year.

Dismissal Please or send in notes for changes in dismissal for your child before 11 a.m. IF AN OR NOTE IS NOT SENT, YOUR CHILD WILL BE SENT HOME AS USUAL. THIS IS THE LAW.

Volunteers Needed Volunteers are definitely wanted and appreciated in our first grade classroom. There are many different ways that you can help. Please complete the volunteer handout and let us know what works for you. We will contact you as needed.

October 8th and 9th Fall Conferences -This year we only have two hours and one day for our parent teacher conferences. -A questionnaire will be sent home for you to fill out about your child. The fall conferences are really a chance for us teachers to get to know your children better through you. Completing the questionnaire will let us get that information without you having to come in. - Remember that if you have another child at Key, your conferences have already been scheduled by the office and can not be changed.

Final Things Please make sure you have filled out the sign in sheet, volunteer sheet and directory correction form. Grab an apple from the “Giving Tree” if you are in a giving mood. Make sure you look on Blackboard for a copy of this presentation.

Thank You For Coming! Thank you so much for coming. We look forward to working with you and your child through out the school year. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask us.
