Sentence Structure

What is sentence structure? It refers to the kinds and number of clauses (group of words containing a subject and predicate) a sentence contains.

Four Kinds simple complex compound- complex compound

Simple Sentences one independent clause-can stand alone may have compound subject may have compound verb may have any number of phrases NO SUBORDINATE CLAUSE-cannot stand alone

Examples Single subject and verb: Bob rode his bicycle all summer. Compound subject and verb: Lilly and Tim came over and helped me with my math project. Compound subject and verb: Lilly and Tim came over and helped me with my math project. Single subject and compound verb: Tara picked a whole basket of berries and ate them all. Compound subject and single verb: My dog and cat ran away.
