 Short ◦ Long mission statement is too hard to remember  Simple ◦ Simple is easier to implement  Working ◦ Must actually do something  Define what you do ◦ What field are you in?

 Keep it simple, clear and brief  What you want to focus on and who you want to become as a person ◦ Think about specific actions, behaviors, and habits that would have a positive impact on your life  It should guide you in your day to day actions  Make it part of your every day life

 “Graduate with a Bachelor’s degree while attaining the best education possible.”  Why’s it good?

 “Commit myself to excellence, hold myself to the highest degree of integrity, and never settle for anything less than my best work.”  A little long but effective nonetheless. Why?

 “Never give up, and achieve all of my goals through persistence and dedication.  Why’s it good?

 You are going to write your own personal mission statement.  Your mission statement is going to be based on the SMART goals you set in Lesson 1.1.

 SMART Goal: ◦ “To achieve an 80% in Algebra by the end of 8 th grade.”  In order to achieve this goal, what do I need to do? ◦ Study ◦ Go to tutoring ◦ Do my homework  BASICALLY I NEED TO WORK HARD DON’T I?

 SMART Goal: ◦ “To achieve an 80% in Algebra by the end of 8 th grade.”  “I will work extremely hard in school and dedicate my time appropriately and responsibly.”
