Company History First casting poured on 7-24-34, with a crew of 7 Teledyne Industries purchases Casting Service in 1967 1996 Merger between Allegheny Ludlum & Teledyne forms Allegheny Teledyne Incorporated 1999 Allegheny Teledyne transforms into Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (ATI on the NYSE) Alpena, Michigan - First expansion outside of LaPorte in 2008 Added in-house machining capabilities for large castings ATI Casting Service has been a part of the manufacturing community in LaPorte since 1934. The expansion in 2008 into Alpena was driven primarily by the growing wind energy market.

ATI Casting Service has served a variety of markets over the years ATI Casting Service has served a variety of markets over the years. One primary market has been large internal combustion engine blocks for locomotives, marine applications and stationary power generation. Two members of the ATI team are pictured in front of a large 16 cylinder engine block.

Casting Service has been in wind energy for over 15 years Casting Service has been in wind energy for over 15 years. We are currently tooled up for five OEM turbine manufacturers. These ATI team members are pictured in front of turbine hubs. When we first entered the business, we made 2500 pound hubs for 250kW machines. Over the years, the size of the turbines increased to 500kW, 750kW, 1.5mW and now we produce castings for 2.0mW and 2.5mW turbines that weigh up to 36,000 pounds.

This is a shot of an employee sitting on a turbine frame casting weighing 38,000 pounds. We are currently capable of producing castings that weigh as much as 125,000 pounds.

This slide depicts the actual, short term forecast, and longer term development prediction for the global wind market. It is the kind of business forecast that most anyone would want to see develop as a reality.

This slide is specific to the US market and it depicts a different story of extreme swings of installed generation capacity. This is the reality of the market – good times and bad.

Quality expectations are high JIT/Pull inventory management is expected Market swings are dramatic Competition is global ATI’s experiences Quality expectations often exceed automotive standards. NDT specifications are exacting and documentation for certifications is very detailed. The parts are typically large and inventory management requires a financial and managerial commitment. Market swings can be very detrimental to the financial performance of a business if you’re not prepared. Competition is global which means pricing expectations are challenging.

SUMMARY ATI Casting Service has been in wind energy for a long time. We believe diversity in our power generation supply can be good for local communities, states and the nation. We believe that just as there is a place for coal, nuclear, hydro, and solar energy; there can be a place for the clean energy generated by wind and we look forward to continuing to serve the wind energy market in the future.
