 In 1837, John Deere, a blacksmith engineered a polished steel plow in his shop in Grand Detour, Illinois, that allowed farmers to cut furrows in the tough soil.  Evolved from John Deere blacksmith to John Deere manufacturer.  The plow business grew and the company moved to Moline, Illinois, where more water and transportation services were available.  Deere bought the maker of Waterloo Boy tractors after many years of investigating tractor production.  Deere produced the Model D tractor which stayed in the product line for 30 years.  Deere produces the combine  John Deere company becomes the world’s largest manufacturer of farm equipment  Celebrated their 175 th anniversary.
