Early American Colonies SOL USI.5a: The student will demonstrate knowledge of the factors that shaped Colonial America by: a) describing the religious and economic events and conditions that led to the colonization of America.

Plymouth - 1620 Colony was settled by separatists from the Church of England who wanted to avoid RELIGIOUS persecution. Plymouth was settled by the Pilgrims

Massachusetts Bay Colony - 1629 Settled by the PURITANS Wanted to avoid religious persecution Wanted to REFORM, or purify, the Church of England. They did not want to totally separate from it.
