We have been taught throughout our school careers that the Pilgrims came to America to flee religious persecution, we now know that most of them departed from the Netherlands. Why did the Pilgrims want to leave the Netherlands? Answers will vary, but should include the ideas that they did not want their children to be corrupted by the loosed Dutch morals and that there were few economic opportunities available to them We have been taught throughout our school careers that the Pilgrims came to America to flee religious persecution, we now know that most of them departed from the Netherlands.
