Homework Punchline worksheet #40 A) -4 S) 5 E) -54 P) 100 T) 36 C) -7 I) -120 U) -150 O) -50 S) 240 H) -4.5 A) -84 S) 90 D) -200 Y) -17 F) -10 O) 64 B) -20 L) 180 R) 2.5 lb S) 144 “Why Did the Outfielder Join the Orchestra? So He Could Play First Bass!

Objective SWBAT solve equations using decimals

Equation- mathematical sentence with an equal sign both sides Like a scale, both sides must be balanced

Section 2.7 “Equations with Decimals” x + 7.2 = 10.5 Left side Right side ‘x’ has to be 3.3 in order to make the equation balanced. Like a scale, the left side and right side must be the same in order to be balanced!

Solving Addition Equations… Isolate the variable! Get ‘m’ by itself. m + 4.7 = -18.2 To get the ‘m’ by itself get rid of “adding 4.7” – 4.7 4.7 Do the opposite. “Subtract 4.7” m = -22.9 Whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do the other side. -18.2 – 4.7 -18.2 + (-4.7) “opp-opp” -22.9

Solving Subtraction Equations… Isolate the variable! Get ‘y’ by itself. -2.26 = y – 6.91 To get the ‘y’ by itself get rid of “subtracting 6.91” +6.91 +6.91 Do the opposite. “Add 6.91” 4.65 = y Whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do the other side.

Solving a Multiplication Equation -0.6y = -5.1 “Undo” multiplication by dividing both sides of the equation -0.6 -0.6 y = 8.5

Solving a Division Equation -8· · -8 j = 1.75 -8 “Undo” division by multiplying both sides of the equation j = -14

Guided Practice Notetaking Guide page 35, Checkpoints #1-9 -8.7 2) 10.58 3) 16.52 4) -2.05 5) x = 3.8 6) y= -4.7 7) m = -1.9 8) x = -7.2 9) y = 26.04
