Working with Word Problems IM1

Objectives Students will be able to:  translate word problems into equations with a single variable.  solve equations with a single variable. Homework:  There’s a worksheet for you to take home and complete. It’s due Monday.

Math Lingo It is important to understand the way math will sound when we are trying to put together equations and expressions. The way we say something AFFECTS EVERYTHING!  True when talking to anyone. Let’s look at the key words used to signal math operations and some examples.

Math Lingo

Ex. 1 They sang for 4 hours.

Ex. 2 So the two numbers are 12 and 13.

Ex. 3 It would take 5 hours.
