Halloween

In the United States we celebrate Halloween on 31 st October. During the whole month people get into the Halloween spirit. These are some typical Halloween decorations.

To celebrate the anticipation of Halloween, many people go to haunted houses, tell ghost stories, or watch scary films.

Many people buy pumpkins and carve jack-o- lanterns. Jack-o-lanterns are pumpkins with a face carved into them and a candle placed inside, to light it up.

The pumpkin is an essential part of Halloween celebrations. After carving a jack-o-lantern, many people toast the pumpkin seeds for a Halloween snack. Other people use the meat of the pumpkin to make pumpkin bread, which is sweet.

On Halloween, children dress up in costumes and go trick-or-treating. They ring their neighbors’ doorbells and say, “trick-or-treat!” Then the neighbors give them candy.

Halloween costumes are usually scary. People like to dress up as ghosts, witches, and skeletons. Sometimes people dress up as things that aren’t spooky, like clowns.

Candy corn is one type of candy that is special to Halloween. Candy apples are another special Halloween treat. They are apples that are covered in caramel, and then sometimes rolled in nuts or other candy pieces, like M&Ms.
