/ HiNet IDC Center Support IPv6 HiNet Launched IPv6 Tunnel Broker Trial Service HiNet Obtained “IPv6 Enabled SP Logo” CHT participated in World IPv6 Day CHTTL IPv6 Testing Lab participated the government’s “Next Generation Internet Interoperability Certification Program” ( ) HiNet Launched FTTx/Dual Stack IPv6 Trial Service CHT support government IPv6 GSN network Project CHT Participated in World IPv6 Launch PWLAN and LTE IPv6 trial run HiNet online E- service provide IPv6 application HiNet Launched FTTx/Dual Stack IPv6 Service CHT released the IPv6 White Paper HiNetHiNet, ISP of CHT (Chunghwa Telecom, NYSE:CHT)

/24  Network status  Backbone and access network is IPv6 capable  International Networking  HiNet has established IPv6 networking with the world's leading ISP and ICP operators, including AT & T,Verizon, Sprint, TeliaSonera, HE, NTT, FT,KDDI, PCCW, SingTel, StarHub, Google, Facebook…,etc.  Domestic and TWIX interconnection  HiNet has provided IPv6 traffic exchange (TWIXv6) for other Taiwan ISP operators, including GSN, TANET, TWAREN, TWGATE…,etc. CHT IPv6 Exchange Descriptionnumbers International Networking Numbers of interconnection with international ISPs 42 Domestic Networking (including TANET and ISP) Numbers of interconnection with Domesticl ISPs 5 TWIX interconnection Numbers of interconnection with Domesticl ISPs(TWIX) 9

~ Future 2004~ ~2004 Dedicated Frame-Relay IPv6 Network Dedicated GE IPv6 Network Commercial Dual Stack Network All POPs support IPv6 dual stack service

/24 HiNet Backbone(Dual Stack) Internet ISP 1ISP N Domestic Peering (Dual Stack) International Peering (Dual Stack) Access Network (Dual Stack) HiChannel video HiNet Mail HiNet e- Advertisement HiNet e-Mall Dual Stack Services IDC Data Center (Dual Stack) TWIX (Dual Stack) HiNet is the first ISP to obtain IPv6 Enabled Logo in Taiwan

/24  IPv6 Native Access Service  For leased line users. Users must prepare a router and connected to HiNet IPv6 with leased line.  IPv6 Configured Tunnel Service  For HiNet IPv4 users with fixed IP address. Users can set up a configured tunnel with HiNet tunnel server.  Tunnel Broker Service  For all HiNet IPv4 users. Users need to install TB client software to set up dynamic tunnel with HiNet tunnel broker.  FTTx IPv6/IPv4 Dual Stack Service  For HiNet FTTx users. There are two different types. Fixed types: The OS of CPE must support SLAAC(RFC4862). Non-fixed types: The OS of CPE must support IPv6 PPPoE. HiNet is currently in pre-commerical Fiber to the Home(FTTx) IPv4/IPv6 services stage

/24  HiNet DNS and domain name hosting service are IPv6 ready  HiNet Mail, HiNet Internet advertising, HiNet digital mall and other services are supported IPv6  All of HiNet IDC POP is dual stack now  Online e-service for IPv6 application is available It’s free service for IPv6 users.

/24  CHT-TL (Chunghwa Telecom Laboratories, the R&D lab under Chunghwa Telecom)  Established in 2003, the IPv6 Ready Logo Accredited Lab in Taiwan  Test Capabilities Include:IPv6 Core 、 IPSec 、 DHCPv6 、 SNMPv2C and CE Router

/24  Chunghwa Telecom Profile  IPv6 Measurements in Taiwan  IPv6 Deployment Status of Chunghwa Telecom  Chunghwa Telecom IPv6 Deployment experience  Summary

/24  IPv6 interconnection with ICP is not equal to IPv4 ex : Taiwan YAHOO YAHOO TW HiNet Dual Stack User (IPv6 first) Server IPv4 (shorter path) IPv6(longer path) Transit Provider Dual Stack Web server Domestic interconnection (IPv4 Only) Foreign Interconnection ( 支援 IPv6)

/24

/24  Client prefers IPv6 over IPv4. Twice the load on the DNS  CAPEX is added IPv4 Only IPv4/IPv6 dualstack

/24  IPv6/IPv4 fallback problem  Problem is especially significant in TCP-based applications 使用者 test.ipv6.tw 1. IPv6 first DNS Server IPv6 add resolution test.ipv6.tw AIPv4 = AAAAIPv6 = 2001::1  2. Try IPv4 Est 20 secs Network or Server problem User : IPv4/IPv6 DNS : IPv4/IPv6 Network : Not IPv6 ready Server : Not IPv6 ready IPv4/IPv6 DNS provide server’s IPv6 address Client is IPv4/IPv6 dualstack

/24  Not all CPE Support IPv6  MTU Size issue Carrier IPv4 and IPv6 Network Layer 2 Access VLAN IPv4 and / or IPv6 devices BNT Bridged-Mode IPv4/IPv6 Edge Router (B-RAS) WAN port MTU=1492(PPPoE) LAN port default MTU=1500 CPE Server 1500 Bytes Packets Packet Too Big (PTB) RA(MTU should be1492) Issue 1 End user CPE does not support IPv6 over PPPoE Issue 1 End user CPE does not support IPv6 over PPPoE Issue 2 The IPv6 MTU advertised on Ethernet interfaces should be 1492 bytes in PPPoE environments Issue 2 The IPv6 MTU advertised on Ethernet interfaces should be 1492 bytes in PPPoE environments

/24  Chunghwa Telecom Profile  IPv6 Readiness in Taiwan  IPv6 Deployment Status of Chunghwa Telecom  Chunghwa Telecom IPv6 Deployment experience  Summary

/24  IPv6 has minor flaws, which are enough to give bad impressions to users  IPv6 routing path, ICP DNS problem, fallback problem and CPE IPv6 support..,etc.  ISP/ICP should ensure that new equipment and software they purchase is IPv6 ready  The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 will be a significant network changeover and a milestone in the history of the internet  CHT Provided the FTTx based IPv6/IPv4 dual stack trial services since 2011  Becoming IPv6-ready is a key part of CHT plans for wider 4G LTE and PWLAN network deployments
